Jerry Guo with his family

Mr Jerry Guo - B & G (Wholesale) Tyres Pty Ltd

A conversation with his father-in-law in 1999 about tyres and the potential to supply competitively priced products in the Australian market has grown into a multi-million dollar business for Chinese-born Jerry Guo and his family.

The casual exchange soon turned into business planning as Jerry could see the demand was there and his father-in-law's family had been tyre suppliers for three generations. Thus B & G (Wholesale) Tyres Pty Ltd was established.

"The Australian tyre market was very much dominated by a few brand names who supplied the top end of the market," he says.

Jerry believed there was a market segment which required quality tyres at a more affordable price for mainstream consumers.

He consulted CKG on the way forward for his enterprise and says the firm's hands-on attitude and genuine interest in his business and goals were not only confidence-building, but helped him establish a successful and sustainable business.

When B & G (Wholesale) Tyres Pty Ltd first started it was the first tyre business to advertise Chinese tyres and in a short time, 80% of its business was with Tyremaster/Kmart.

Today, there are branches in Brisbane and Sydney and plans to expand to Western Australia and the company supplies to big brand name distributors including the Bob Jane Corporation; the Tyre Power Group; Jack Quick Fit; and independent retail stores.

"Clarissa's and CKG's multi-cultural background and experience with the Australian market, business laws and regulation were among the factors which helped me get started and grow," he says.

"CKG has really helped us a lot along the way, particularly in the beginning when I needed a lot of support and advice about cash flow and financials.

"I trust their expertise, experience and knowledge and know the advice they give me is sound."
